We know that being a mum is a barrier to entering politics. We want to change that.

Our Mission

We know that politics works best when everyone has a seat at the table. At the moment, too many mums feel unable to put themselves forward for public office. This means that their experiences don’t get heard, and policies which would work for mums don’t get the attention they deserve. We want to change that by getting more mums into Parliament, onto councils and active in our politics as Labour representatives.

The Good Parliament Project

The Good Parliament research shows when it comes to family, being a parent is a barrier to selection and election to office for women – but not men. Women remain underrepresented in Parliament- nearly half of women in Parliament in 2016 didn’t have children, compared to only 1 in 4 men. This reflects the motherhood penalty in our political system which means women end up going into politics later in life or struggling to combine being a representative with being a parent.
