Getting more mothers into the Mother of Parliaments

We help fund mums with young kids to stand for selection as Labour candidates.

Our support

The rules on selection in the Labour Party recently changed to cap costs for selection campaigns, but specifically exclude childcare costs from this cap – yet without access to funds during this critical time it is still a barrier to participation.  That’s why the MotheRED women will receive direct grants to support them to stand for selection as Labour candidates and cover these costs, with additional support will be available for those who need it, including single mums and those raising children with SEND. We know that financial barriers and the cost of childcare stop too many women from putting themselves forward for selection, and these grants are designed to help overcome these. Our financial support is designed to overcome the specific financial barriers facing those with childcare responsibilities, and the ThisMumVotes campaign welcomes any candidate who is committed to a politics which works for mums, whether they are a mum themselves or not.

The Process

All applicants who are eligible to stand for the Labour Party will be invited to fill out a full application form which will give them an opportunity to set out their motivation for standing and the experience they bring to the table. After this, our panel of Ambassadors will evaluate every application before interviewing a shortlist of candidates to decide which 10 candidates will receive the first round of funding. Future rounds will extend funding to more women and further opportunities to apply will be announced in due course.
